US Marine Corps

Edward Lee Abney

September 24, 1945 ~ November 27, 2021 (age 76)

Edward Lee Abney, 76, passed away on November 27, 2021.  He was born on September 24, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, to parents Elbert Columbus Abney and Vera York Abney.

Eddie was a loving husband, father & grandfather. He was very honored to serve his country as a Vietnam Veteran as well as a proud Marine. Eddie had such great character and personality. If you knew him, he had a nickname for you. Making jokes and picking at you was most entertaining to him, as he was doing just that until his last moments here on earth. To know Eddie was to know love. His love for the people in his life was undeniable; he made everyone around him feel special, wanted and loved. He was so very patient, kind, gentle, wise, and understanding. He had an array of jobs through the years. He spent his early years showing horses as well as training and working cutting horses. In his later years, he worked as a large equipment operator for a telephone company and drove an 18 wheeler, eventually owning his own until his health declined. He always did his best at what he did and showed so much care towards the people around him. Dad/Papa Eddie was truly one of the greatest men and will always be missed and remembered. We’ll do our best not to “hot rod,” to remember “we aren’t bullet proof,” and the ones closest to you, we will always recall your humor and favorite line to us...

“Come back when you've got more money, are in a better mood, and can't stay as long.”

We love you forever!

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Anna Abney; children Trey Abney and Dusty Abney and wife Beverly; bonus daughter Joni Burns; and bonus sons Andrew Smith and Joe Snider; grandchildren Amelia Adel Abney, Kathleen Grundt, Lyndee Smith, Baylee Smith, and Morgan Snider.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents.
