Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Christi Lynn Evans announces her passing. Christi, 64, of Gun Barrel City, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 19, surrounded by family in the comfort of her home. Christi was a strong, loving, selfless; Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, and Grandmother who is loved and missed by so many. She will be cherished and remembered always.

She was born on August 11, 1957, in Dallas, Texas, the oldest child of Corine Johnston. She grew up in Mabank and moved to Gun Barrel City in 1991 with her family. She was a strong, hardworking, loving mother of two sons. She instilled these characteristics into her boys deeply.

Christi worked for the City of Gun Barrel for 18 years, starting as a temporary Court Clerk in March 2004 and quickly moving to a full-time Dispatcher in May 2004. She was later promoted to Dispatch Supervisor in February 2008. In August 2017, she transferred to City Hall as the Permit Assistant, where she remained until her passing. She had a great passion for helping people and truly enjoyed her jobs working for and with the City all these years. She made many lifetime friends and countless memories with her work family.

In earlier years, Christi participated in youth rodeo events as a calf roper and bull rider which she continued after graduating from Mesquite High School. Through the rodeo circuit and her passion for bull riding, she met her husband, Jimmy Evans. They traveled and competed in rodeos together before getting married and starting their family.

If you asked anyone what she loved most, the answer would be her children and grandchildren without hesitation. Family was everything to her, and watching her grandchildren grow up made her so happy.

Christi is survived by her mother Corine Johnston of Gun Barrel City, husband Jimmy Evans of Gun Barrel City, son Joey Evans and wife Jennifer of Conroe; daughter-in-law Kristi Evans of Gun Barrel City, grandchildren; Shelby Jade and Dylan Cody of Gun Barrel City, and Tanner Joseph of Conroe, her brother Wes Johnston and wife Misty of Gun Barrel City, nephews; Skyler Johnston and Jayden Walden of Gun Barrel City; as well as many family members and friends.
